Gerald-Cato Endowed Scholarship

Eligibility: Sophomore, Inner City or Rural Region, Science major, 3.0 GPA, Demonstrated Need (FAFSA required), Recommendation Letter, 15 Credit Hours

Scholarship was made possible by the generosity of Melvin D. Gerald Sr. ’64 and George L. Cato ’74 and was established to provide support to students who are pursuing a careers in science. Eligibility requirements include:

  • Sophomore
  • Permanent resident of an urban inner city or rural region
  • Majoring in the sciences (chemistry, biology, physics, and engineering) with a preference to Chemistry majors
  • Maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Recommendation from a faculty member teaching in the sciences
  • Demonstrated low Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as illustrated on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and confirmed by the College’s Office of Financial Aid

To retain eligibility for the scholarship, students must:

  • Remain in good standing at the College
  • Maintain a full-time course load
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA each semester
  • Continue to major in one of the sciences

Award Details
Awards vary and will be used to cover tuition, room and board expenses that are not covered by other financial aid and expected family contributions as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or the methodology used by Morehouse College.
